Hello! I am a social worker with undergraduate and graduate degrees in social work. While I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in North Carolina and Virginia, I also have broad experiences as a therapist.
My education in social work emphasized the importance of relationships and my work experience has reinforced this. I believe the power of the relationship between a therapist and a client is to help people change and grow so they can achieve happiness and health. Therapy can be like giving birth: it can be painful, messy, beautiful and, in the end, you have an amazing result!
People have the ability to make changes or to re-decide anything about their life. Therapy is personal work that requires some thought when you enter into a relationship with a therapist. I am humbled and amazed by the work and feel privileged to work each day to support, witness and facilitate as people are empowered to meet their needs.
Attending therapy is your work. I am willing to be present as you do your work. There are not any predictions, mind reading, looking into a crystal ball, or using a magic wand. I do believe and have faith in therapy and in the relationship established between you and me, your therapist.
I have been fortunate in my work to accompany adolescents to “open meetings” and as a result have an appreciation for the courage demonstrated as members share individual stories that are then recognized by others as similar to their own situation. I continue to witness this in my group work with adolescents to address anger and in individual therapy. The adults and couples I work with also show such strengths.
I look forward to exploring how I might be able to help you reach your goals and find a path for change in your life.
