As part of her clinical training Genevieve also received specialized instruction in Parent Management Training (PMT). PMT is a behavioral based program aimed at helping parents/guardians to manage their children’s challenging behaviors by increasing compliance through positive reinforcement, while strengthening the parent-child bond. Studies have shown that PMT has been effective in improving children’s behavior and reducing non-compliant and oppositional behaviors.
Genevieve is passionate about helping individuals, couples and families in learning more effective communication patterns in order to develop skills that will reduce interpersonal conflict and help them achieve greater connectedness within their relationships. She is a certified PAIRS (Practical Application of Intimate Relationship Skills) instructor and teaches her clients concrete communication tools that they can take with them to apply and practice in their daily lives.
She currently sees children, adolescents and adults and provides individual, couples and family counseling services. She uses a variety of treatment modalities and therapeutic interventions to address issues related to anxiety, depression, AD/HD, disruptive behavior, emotional reactivity, parent-child conflict, couple/marital issues, trauma, personality disorders, and/or substance abuse/addictions.
Genevieve believes that therapy is a collaborative process between the therapist, individual, and/or family and is developed by creating a non-judgmental and supportive therapeutic environment. Her strengths-based approach encourages individuals to gain greater self-awareness, enhance self-esteem, develop effective coping skills, as well as increase motivation in order to improve overall functioning and achieve their desired goals.
